If you say no, be prepared to justify your answer
Calls for working from home will only grow louder and more urgent in the near future, and not only due to the coronavirus crisis.
That is true of managers and employees at all levels of the hierarchy. The need to work from home will affect all industries, not just the particularly innovative ones like IT or pharmaceuticals. Highly qualified applicants in particular will demand practical telecommuting arrangements. Some of them will even make working from home a condition for changing jobs. Companies should therefore think carefully about how they can accommodate these requests. Above all, anyone who says no should be prepared to give a solid, verifiable reason why. Platitudes like “teams should always be together” aren’t enough.
